A Study on Recognizing Value and Belief of Health with aged

There is a increasingly growing emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention and optimum functioning for peaple including the chronically ill and disabled. According as the purpose of the nursing is the promotion of health, the value and belief of heal th within the nursing paradigm need to be defined in every culture. The paradigm components must be explored for meaning given by the aged in their traditional thought and philosophy. The problem addressed by this qualitative study was how the aged recognize value and belief of health, which contribute to the development of Korean nursing theory. Theoretical support for the study was from Leininger's cultural care theory and Korean philosophy and traditional oriented thought. Literature review refers to literature on the aged, health of the aged, and definition and meaning of general health concept. Grounded theory methodology guied the research methodology and analysis to build a substantive theory. The informants were 119 from a variety of social levels and family patterns; traditionally the aged are responsible for the health. The concentrated interviewing period was from may to june, 1995 ; the interviews were done by the researcher with two supporter and most were recorded on audio tape.
Result
from analysis of base datas follows; The value and belief of health that emerged from the categories and properties were the physical stability, the stability of mind, the stability of mind and body, the smoothness (harmony) of body function, the family concord, and the perfection of self. These values and beliefs of health are affected by the cosmic dual forces thought is based on the Great Absolute, family principle of confucian scholar, and Buddism. Among the values and beliefs of health, family concord is found out Korean culture peculiarities. These values and beliefs are all integrated into the idea of health. The study provided implications for nursing theory research, education, and practice change and development.
A Study on Workers Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Health Management in Taejon and Chungnam Province

The purpose of this study was to identify K.A.P. of industrial workers on health management. The study was conducted Dec 5, 1992 to March 10, 1993. The results were as follows : 1. The total Score of K.A.P. of industrial worker on the Knowledge of industrial health management was 2.52, the Attitude score was 42, the Practice score 2, 62. 2. The office workers' score on K.A.P.(T=-2. 11, P=.038) Attitude score(T=-2.03, P=.045) were higher than that of productive workers' 3. The K.A.P. score of married worker was higher than that of single workers, and showed significant differences statistically. 4. There are significant statistical differences in the Attitude score of workers according to age(F=2.26, F=.0304). 5. There were statistically significant differences among total Scores of K.A.P. (F=3.1141, P=.0498). Practice score(F=8.4421, P=.0004), Knowledge Score (F=3.5833, P=.0323). Performed 84.7%. 6. The relationship between industrial worker's health level score and industrial health status had reverse relationship(R=-.7689. P<.001) Therefore the companies that performed better health management attained a higher health level.
A Study on the Status of Health Management in Industries Located in Taejon and Chungnam Province

The purpose of this study was to identify the status of health management from Dec 5, 1992 to March 10, 1993. The data. was. collected from 30 industrial nurses, through a structured questionnaire. The results were as follows : 1. 1.50%. of the companies surveyed were manufacturing companies, 24% of them were research center. 2. The sizes of the companies were as follows: 300-499 employees 11(37%). more than 1,000 employees 4(13%). 3. 18 companies(60%) had organized safety and health committees. 4. 25 companies(83%) had there own health clinics. 5. 60% of companies had a Health center assigned as were hospitals 83%. 6. Practical nurses were employed by all industries, 10 companies had their own physicians, and 3 had their own industrial hygienist. 7. The primary health examination rate was 96% and workers who took follow up examinations were 8.5% out of them, 73.6% were evaluated at the C & D grade. Follow Up management to D. evaluations was performed about 50%. 8. 13 personnel(43%) required, special examinations. 9. The relation between the workers health score and the health status, score was negative and not significant. Therefore the better health management the higher health level score.
